On Jan 18, east China’s Shandong province announced the beginning of rural culture and tourism festival, and the event also kicked off in Kenli District, Dongying that day.
At the beginning, Dongying’s top ten cultural and tourism activities were released. More than 3,000 people attended this event. The activities on site included 300-people Yellow River drum performance, Spring Festival bazaar gathering over 60 varieties of agricultural and intangible cultural heritage products, as well as 100-people marching folk customs tour.
At the event, Dong Jie, the cheongsam inheritor, said proudly: “Cheongsam is made of silk, cotton and linen as raw materials, integrating embroidery, hand-painting, and cutting techniques. It is a traditional costume specially tailored for Chinese women to show the beauty of traditional Chinese culture.” Yellow River straw weaving, black pottery, ink pads, embroidery, New Year pictures were all displayed as intangible cultural heritage products, attracting not only local residents, but also foreign friends from Britain and South Africa.
“Folklore is the inheritance of people’s lives. We are willing to show visitors the old craftsmanship that we have always adhered to, so that more people can experience the simple satisfaction and happiness of those days.” said Zhang Kuishan, the craftsman of straw weaving techniques.
Themed to celebrate the New Year in villages, the festival unfolds in three dynamic phases from Jan 18 to March 11 during the Spring Festival.
During the festival, Dongying promotes winter consumption by organizing colorful folk cultural activities and opening public cultural venues for free, so as to attract more tourists to celebrate the Spring Festival in Dongying. 14 key municipal activities and 15 key county activities are organized throughout the event, creating a colorful festival with various highlights.
