The proclamation ceremony, held at City Hall within the City Council Chambers on December 12th, served as a symbolic tribute to the fundamental principles of human dignity and freedom.
During this ceremony, accolades were extended to several distinguished organizations, with special recognition granted to the Guardians of Human Rights Foundation for its pivotal role in advocating for this proclamation. Founded by Zarai Maza and Gerard Camejo, this international ONG is dedicated to preserving human dignity across various countries and cultures.
Reflecting on this groundbreaking event, Mayor Christi Fraga of Doral remarked, “We are a community with many individuals who have immigrated here from countries where these rights have been stripped away.”
City Councilor Maureen Porras played a significant role in presenting the proposal to the council, emphasizing, “It’s important for us that the world knows we stand in support and solidarity with all victims of these violations.”
