COSMOCOS is actively pursuing a multifaceted ODM (Original Design Manufacturing) business strategy in line with the trend of ‘an era where anyone with an idea can start a beauty brand’. This professional cosmetic company is a beauty and health lifestyle subsidiary of KT&G, a leading tobacco and ginseng company in South Korea. Their strategy includes enhancing the online cosmetic creation platform, ‘COSMOCOS LAB’, holding beauty idea startup contests for youth, and increasing participation in exhibitions, all aimed at reinforcing their branding as an ‘ODM specialist company’ and showcasing their capabilities.

Founded in 1994, COSMOCOS specializes in cosmetics and operates an active ODM OEM business based on its R&D center and manufacturing plant. The company manufactures various domestic and international beauty products, backed by certifications like CGMP, ISO22716, EVE VEGAN from France, ISO14001, and ISO45001, and continuous research and development.

In late February of this year, the company launched the COSMOCOS LAB (cosmocoslab.com), an online platform for cosmetic ODM, serving as a hub for the ODM business. COSMOCOS LAB is a service that allows anyone to easily start cosmetic development at any time and from anywhere, utilizing the company’s 30 years of cosmetic development expertise and technical know-how.

A key feature of COSMOCOS LAB is the ability to view and immediately request the development of formulations that COSMOCOS owns. Business members can use the ‘ODM Development Request’ feature, which allows for a quick request process in under three minutes by entering minimum information such as planning intent, distribution channels, volume, and MOQ. COSMOCOS provides detailed spec information, photos, and animated GIFs to convey the characteristics of the formulations effectively.

Through the ‘OPEN ODM’ menu, the company aims to gather information from partner companies in one place, from containers to ingredients and packaging, to improve the convenience of product development for brand companies and create opportunities for mutual collaboration. By checking ‘Partner Registration’ upon membership registration, anyone can upload their company information. 

To respond to rapidly changing trends, COSMOCOS LAB also offers various information through the ‘TREND&NEWS’ menu, including sustainability, sun care, hair loss care, and themed formulation curation selected by COSMOCOS. Members who agree to receive marketing information will also receive monthly newsletters via email.

Eight months after its launch, COSMOCOS LAB surpassed 500 members and received over 20 development requests. Approximately 150 pieces of data (formulations, ingredients, trend reports, newsletters, etc.) have been disclosed. Despite the recovery in face-to-face sales demand post-pandemic, COSMOCOS plans to maintain a dual strategy of online and offline for the time being, focusing on industry workers and new clients familiar with mobile devices in their 20s and 30s.
