After 7 years serving as Vice President, Mr. Valdez has announced his bid to be the next President of Local #116.

Santiago Valdez, the current Vice President of Customs Union #116 for the past 7 years, has announced his bid for President of the local chapter. After years of dedicated service, he is sharing his vision for the future in order to take Chapter 116 to even greater heights with the support of its members.

Valdez is a dedicated CBP officer with 20 years of service and an unwavering commitment to improving the working conditions and representation of members of Chapter #116. As Vice President for the past seven years, he has a proven track record of implementing positive changes and innovative policies.

During his tenure as Vice President, Valdez has been a driving force behind the implementation of innovative policies such as AWS schedules and the successful negotiation of BRP. These efforts have actively improved the working conditions for members of Chapter 116 Union in CBP. Yet, he recognizes that there is still more work to be done.

Valdez’s candidacy for President is driven by his genuine desire to help union members and ensure they are professionally and effectively represented creating a brighter and more prosperous future for every member of Chapter #116.

Valdez has outlined his goals for the presidency, which can be distilled into 6 core goals including considering AWS (alternative work schedules), active BRP (bid and rotation) involvement, adherence to executive board duties, using the NTEU contract to properly grieve issues, work with NTEU National to update chapter Bylaws to prevent abuse of decision making in the future, and provide true transparency with chapter financials and executive board voting.

The team that will carry out this vision is composed of experienced, dedicated individuals who understand the importance of our organization and its role in affecting meaningful change. These team members include Eira Rivera as Vice President with 15 years of experience in CBP-OFO, Kolin Changler as Treasurer with extensive experience resolving issues between employees and management, and Angel Ulloa as Secretary who has served as steward for #116 for the last 2.5 years and 16 years at the agency. They are passionate about building a future that benefits not just us, but also the generations to come after us. We believe this team’s unique combination of skills and experience will help take our Union to the next level.
