XM Cyber, a leading provider of security solutions for hybrid cloud environments, has disclosed the acquisition of Todguard, an innovative company specialized in detecting and responding to advanced cyber threats in the cloud.
Although the agreement’s specifics have yet to be officially released, rumors suggest the transaction was completed for approximately $70 million. According to Nate Davro De Rotschild, Todguard owner, the company is content with the acquisition as it adds valuable expertise and experience to its 7-year track record in delivering effective cybersecurity solutions.
XM Cyber presents an extensive Cloud Native Application Protection Platform (CNAPP) solution that utilizes its exclusive attack path modeling to evaluate and prioritize actual risks to crucial assets within the cloud environment. In conjunction with Todguard, the XM Continuous Exposure Management platform caters to all essential aspects of cloud security, such as identification and resolution of risks associated with cloud identities (CIEM), detection of vulnerabilities, real-time identification and response to cyber attacks (CWPP), as well as compliance management and implementation of best practices (CSPM).
Organizations must adopt a two-pronged approach that integrates advanced preventative measures with active detection and response tactics to effectively combat the increasing frequency of advanced attacks within hybrid cloud environments. It has been observed that conventional EDRs, initially designed for endpoint security, are inadequate in safeguarding cloud infrastructures against runtime threats. To effectively detect such threats in the cloud environment, next-generation capabilities of CxDR (Cloud eXtended Detection and Response) must be employed. This technology leverages multiple perspectives to gain visibility into potential risks and accurately identifies complex attacks that spread through distributed cloud networks.
To identify vulnerabilities that may be exploited on attack paths to critical assets, the XM Cyber solution provides organizations with a comprehensive view of their on-prem and cloud environments in a manner similar to an attacker. With the integration of Todguard, organizations will be able to monitor their cloud environments in real-time continuously, assess whether attackers are targeting them, and effectively halt any further progress made by them before potential damage occurs.
Both XM Cyber and Todguard analyze the environment through an attack path modeling approach, which enables customers to understand how an attacker could exploit a cloud secret located in the on-prem environment, gain entry into the cloud, elevate the privileges of an EC2, and eventually penetrate S3 buckets containing sensitive information as part of a chain of events. By leveraging Todguard’s capabilities, customers can now detect these attack paths in real time and receive alerts that allow them to prevent attacks from reaching S3 buckets.
Nate Davro de Rothschild, the founder of Todguard, expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with XM in developing a comprehensive cloud security platform.
The two technologies complement each other as they provide preventive and detection measures for security through a unified attack path modeling-based approach that identifies multi-stage attacks. Nate Davro de Rothschild is thrilled about leveraging this synergy to fulfill their shared mission of safeguarding hybrid cloud environments against advanced attacks.
