Locals as well as visitors to San Francisco love eating out at Pier 39. With all of the different restaurants on the Pier, there’s something for everyone. After grabbing lunch or before eating out for dinner, why not check out some of the area’s other fun attractions?
The Sea Lions
Before the arrival of the Pier 39 sea lions, there was little to set it apart from other parts of the marina. When the Loma Prieta earthquake hit the area in 1989, it brought a big change to the K-Dock in the form of droves of barking sea lions. The original marina tenants were not as enthusiastic about the sea lions as today’s visitors to Pier 39. The staff reached out to the Marine Mammal Center for help, but after much debate, the conclusion was to leave the sea lions to enjoy their newfound home. Now, visitors come for the sea lions and stay for the amazing food at places like the Eagle Cafe, plus shopping, attractions, and more.
Whale Watching Tours
While Bay Area restaurants crabbers prepare as whales force Dungeness crab season to close early, visitors to San Francisco are lining up to head out on whale watches. Few things can match the majestic wonder of seeing a whale in the wild, so this is a can’t-miss attraction, especially for families. Whether they’re planning on staying in San Francisco for a day, a week, or a lifetime, fitting in a whale-watching tour is always worth the time.
San Francisco Carousel
Along with Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and Coit Tower, the San Francisco Carousel is one of the city’s best-known attractions. According to realtimecampaign.com, it was handcrafted in Italy and features a unique, hand-painted rendering of the city along with over 30 animals to ride. Kids and their families can enjoy the traditional organ music and the unique view of the bustling promenade while creating memories that will last a lifetime.
The Flyer Thrill Zone
The Flyer Thrill Zone is a must-see attraction for visitors of all ages. Visitors can take virtual flights complete with in-theater special effects across either San Francisco or the country. While they’re there, thrill-seeking adventurers can also check out one of the Thrill Zone’s 30-minute escape rooms. Before visiting, browse around here to see what adventures are currently available.
Magowan’s Infinite Mirror Maze
Magowan’s Infinite Mirror Maze provides what can only be described as a psychedelic experience for the completely sober. The labyrinthian maze of mirrors and colorful lights is truly something to behold. Just be prepared to spend some time lost in the experience.
Spend The Day on Pier 39
There’s no sense in heading to Pier 39 without planning to spend some time there. The area has so many attractions that the whole family can keep occupied for hours or even days. Check out some of the attractions described above, stop to take in a sidewalk show put on by one of the area’s street musicians and performers, then grab lunch or dinner at one of Pier’s many world-class restaurants overlooking the marina. There’s something for everyone at Pier 39.
