New data has revealed there are now MORE hedge funds worldwide than there are of many of the world’s most popular burger bars and pizza chains.
With over 30,000 hedge funds currently operating the money crunchers amazingly outnumber the munchers of many fast food chains.
These including KFC (25,000), Burger King (20,000), Pizza Hut (19,000) and Domino’s (18,000).
There are even more ‘Hedgies’ funds currently operating worldwide than there are words in Animal Farm. Well, that’s a turn-up for the books!
Despite the gloomy forecast from the IMF, the new data on the growing number of hedge funds was revealed in a survey by The Portfolio Platform.
Lane Clark – Co-Founder of theportfolioplatform.com, a hub that showcases experienced traders said: “Our data is a clear indication that funds are thriving.
“With more hedge funds than KFC restaurants, it’s safe to say that the finance industry has a larger appetite for risk than for fried chicken.
“It would appear from our research that hedge funds are the new finger-lickin’ good!
“As what might come as a surprise to many, China is in-fact home to the most KFC franchise globally, not the United States, which does take the crown for the leading number of Hedge Funds.”
Despite the proliferation of hedge funds, last year they lost, on average, 5.3 per cent of their investments, according to eVestment.
The data showed 938 new funds were launched in 2022.
Almost a third of the world hedge funds are registered in tax haven the Cayman Islands. More than 12,000 open-ended investment funds are registered with The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority, which equates to one for every six people on the islands.
