Journey to Fostering and Parenthood
After experiencing six miscarriages within three years 2 of which happening on Christmas days and spending more than $100,000 on infertility treatments, Roman and Lindsay Prokopchuk started on their journey as foster parents in 2018. In the past four years, they have opened their hearts and home to 29 children, sometimes caring for up to five kids under the age of four at once.
Roman and Lindsay welcomed Tyler into their home as his foster parents when he was just two weeks old. Born prematurely with drugs in his system, hospital staff were unsure if he would survive his first week. Now a cherished member of their family, Tyler exemplifies the significance of offering safe and loving homes to children within the U.S. foster care system. The couple officially adopted Tyler this March.
Advocating for Foster Care Reform
Roman actively campaigns for foster care reform, using his podcast and appearances on other media platforms to call for a comprehensive overhaul of the foster care system. He strives to inform the public about the genuine experiences of foster parents and dispel misconceptions that often arise from negative news and media portrayals.
Roman is particularly outspoken about the need for improved therapeutic services during the reunification process when a foster child is set to return home. As foster parents, Roman and Lindsay have witnessed both the best and worst aspects of the foster care system, always prioritizing the welfare of the children.
Roman’s Personal Story
Roman, a first-generation immigrant from Ukraine, arrived in the United States in 1990 alongside six family members to flee religious persecution. They lived in a small two-bedroom apartment, and Roman has since built a prosperous life for himself. Currently, five of his relatives are serving in the Ukrainian military as the conflict in Ukraine persists, and one family member has lost their home due to a missile strike.
Roman interned at the Secret Service and held a top-secret security clearance before transitioning into digital marketing after the 2008 recession. In 2012, he established Nova Zora Digital and started the Digital Savage Experience Podcast in 2017, which has been ranked as a top 100 podcast in its category in more than 20 countries.
