London, UK – BPS Assessment, the learning and assessment arm of the British Pharmacological Society, has launched its flagship product, the Prescribing Skills Assessment (PSA), to help organisations measure and improve prescribing safety and skill.
Derived from the UK Prescribing Safety Assessment (PSA), the Prescribing Skills Assessment covers the same eight areas of prescribing competency and has been developed by a team of prescribing experts. The PSA is overseen by the British Pharmacological Society, which has a mission to improve prescribing skills among medical and non-medical prescribers worldwide.
“We believe that prescribing safety is essential to improving patient outcomes,” said Professor Simon Maxwell, Chair of the BPS Assessment Board. “The Prescribing Skills Assessment is designed to help organisations worldwide to assess and improve their prescribing safety and skill, with the ultimate goal of ensuring that patients receive the best possible care.”
The Prescribing Skills Assessment is now being used by medical schools, pharmacy schools and healthcare institutions all over the world. The PSA is available as an online assessment tool that can be taken alongside related eLearning to support prescribing skills by teaching the core principles of clinical pharmacology. The cloud-based platform allows content to be accessed at any time, from anywhere and on any device, providing the perfect distance-based learning tool to support medical teaching curricula.
“Our team of clinical experts create case-based questions with comprehensive feedback on all possible answers. These questions are packaged as assessments, which can be taken alongside related eLearning to support prescribing skills by teaching the core principles of clinical pharmacology. Beyond practice and formative learning, we deliver the Prescribing Skills Assessment, our flagship 2-hour online exam, increasingly recognized internationally as the standard prescribing qualification,” said Professor Maxwell.
The PSA is suitable for candidates from undergraduate to professional level and can be used both formatively and summatively. The Prescribing Skills Assessment can also be tailored to a particular region or medical database.
In addition, BPS Assessment has launched PSA Prep, a collection of free eLearning sessions for medical students to prepare for the PSA. The nine eLearning sessions provide a detailed outline of each of the question styles found in the Prescribing Safety Assessment and address areas of the exam commonly found difficult among candidates.
“We are thrilled to launch the Prescribing Skills Assessment and PSA Prep to support improvement in safe prescribing worldwide,” said Professor Maxwell. “We believe that our innovative products and services will help organisations to measure and improve prescribing safety and skill, ultimately leading to better patient outcomes.”
