Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (Matthew 5:9)
“The Forgiving Heart” is about the process of forgiving, not only the act of forgiving but the attitude of forgiving. It is about His (GOD) infinite forgiveness for us, about the forgiveness He commands us to give others, and especially about the love and joy bestowed upon us when we discover the forgiving heart.
We live in a challenging and demanding world. We are buffeted daily by frustrating events, disappointments, fears, contentious neighbors, and our own mistake-prone personalities. We have been warned that there would be opposition in all things, a truth that is confirmed to us repeatedly in our daily lives.
We may wish otherwise, but life was meant to be soul-stretching. As we seek to overcome our own imperfections, we must also deal with the shortcomings of everyone around us. We are all in the same crowded boat, and inevitably, we clash. As we bump against one another, we will be annoyed and hurt. We remember these injuries, and if we allow them to fester, they will gradually darken our hearts and our minds.
Our Heavenly Father understands this reality and seeks to ease our pain by commanding us to forgive. As we forgive, past injuries do not accumulate and overwhelm us. We cast off burdens that must otherwise be carried, weighing us down in sorrow and anger.
About The Author
Roderick J. Linton (Rod) received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah and studied at the IBM Systems Research Institute in New York City. He was employed by IBM in various engineering and management positions for fourteen years and was a co-founder of IOMEGA Corporation. While his professional background has been primarily in technology development and management, Mr. Linton has also served in local leadership positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His interest in these ideas led to publishing an article entitled “The Forgiving Heart” in the Church-owned magazine, The Ensign, in April 1993. A continuing interest in this magazine article, expressed by many readers over the years, prompted him to expand his understanding of the forgiving heart into the present book.
Mr. Linton lives in Holladay, Utah, and enjoys the wonderful blessing of a growing posterity.
“The Forgiving Heart” is divided into a progressive set of ideas and principles that define and enhance the concept of the forgiving heart.
