Renaissance Recovery’s CEO Kevin Cataldi visited Gordon H. Beatty Middle School to share about his own experience with addiction, and inform middle school students about what addiction entails and how it affects families and the community.
In the spirit of Red Ribbon Week and the growing concern with rainbow fentanyl, Renaissance Recovery wanted to spread awareness to students about drug abuse and how it can lead to the derailing of one’s life.
Renaissance collaborated with Gordon H. Beatty Middle School to inform students on the dangers of substance abuse and to think twice before partaking in drugs.
The assembly allowed Cataldi to share his own journey through addiction and recovery. Awareness was discussed about why and how someone gets addicted as well as common misconceptions that surround substance abuse. These topics aimed to educate students about addiction so they can make decisions accordingly.
As of 2022, 50% of teenagers have misused drugs. Between 2016 and 2022 drug use among 8th graders increased 62%. With the multiple accounts of local teens dying of drug overdoses, awareness is vital now more than ever.
CEO Kevin Cataldi states: “I felt connecting with these students was extremely important now more than ever, with fentanyl becoming more prominent and this critical stage of life that they are in. Here at Renaissance we want to ensure that we are working to improve all aspects of our community, not just the clients that we work with directly.”
Renaissance Recovery, with the help of organizations like Red Ribbon Week and Gordon H. Beatty Middle School, is working to be a positive influence of change in the Orange County community that will have an impact on the future generation.
