Paving the way in Agro tourism

Established in 2008, by Mr. Pradeep Singh Phogat, Pratapgarh Farms has pioneered the concept of Agro tourism in India. The entrepreneur farmer is a native of the place and has spent 20 years as a management professional out of which 12 years have been as CEO of an international development organization. He is widely traveled within and outside the country. For the last several years he has been nominated to be a member of the National Committee on Tourism of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). He was encouraged by the state’s Farm Tourism Policy, which led him to establish this farm tourism destination on his ancestral farmland. His passion to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of Haryana has become a model for sustainable tourism development and multi-activity in the agro-tourism sector and many other farms across India have followed suit. Pratapgarh Farms has also been recognized by the Department of Tourism, Government of Haryana for its efforts in promoting tourism by displaying the culture of Haryana.

Over the years Pratapgarh Farms has inspired many farmers to share their agricultural heritage and rural lifestyle with visitors and has helped them find an additional stream of revenue to supplement their income. Agro Tourism is a complex and diverse activity, and the model developed by Mr. Phogat at Pratapgarh Farms was done after a careful study of existing Agro Tourism models in Italy, Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. The model at its core focuses on promoting tourism that is economically sustainable, socially equitable, environmentally friendly, and culturally authentic.

As Pratapgarh Farms has been able to attract visitors to rural areas away from major cities it has had a significant impact on the lives of the local rural community:

  • It has helped create new jobs for local, retired army personnel, women, and youth in rural communities.
  • Pratapgarh has cultivated strong relationships with farmers, artisans, artists, and craftsmen.
  • Enhanced community pride and rejuvenate the regional culture.
  • Enhance the quality of life of rural communities and create opportunities.
  • Reduce the impact of seasonality on rural communities.
