With over ten years under her belt as a professional photographer, Angie Myers is no stranger to making her clients feel their best. When the COVID-19 pandemic brought events around the world to a screeching halt, Myers pivoted her business.
Just as her goal is when she’s behind the camera, Myers developed her jewelry product line: AKŌYA COMPANY, to continue striving to make customers feel good about themselves with every piece of jewelry.
“I find comfort in art and storytelling,” says Myers. Both are tools she has used to ease her struggles with her own mental health. When her event photography had temporarily closed during the pandemic, she needed to find another creative outlet. Myers had to explore new avenues to find that comfort. She landed on the art of jewelry design, which married two of her passions: fashion and promoting mental health.
Named after a type of pearl, Myers’s brand centers on a line of wellness products and delicate jewelry pieces made from sterling silver, gold, and freshwater pearls.
“Pearls are delicate just like our mental health. They need to be looked after and taken care of. I use pearls as a reminder that beauty comes from within.” says Myers.
It is her hope that her jewelry can serve the same purpose for anyone who wears it.
