Glitzy states that this was such a heart warming project to get to be a part of these 6-shorts for Instagram/Meta to celebrate #ItalianHeritageMonth this October. Hopefully it makes my dads side of the Family proud R.I.P. to my Nonno: “Roberto Buccola/Roberts”(Grandpa) who came to the the US when he was 8 years old from Sicily in hopes of perusing theAmerican dream. And to my Nonna: “Lou Burlingami” (Grandma) for teaching me its important to know where you come from and the legacy you are capable to leave behind.
Creative directed by Italian American burlesque/showgirl choreographer Harley Harpurr North Hollywood local, we are transported to Glitzy’s Italian Grandparents house in a little Italy community near you! The standing set which was actually filmed in Los Angeles CA, is replicated in leopard prints and gold leafing expressing the gaudy and decadent designs often associated with Italian American cultural fashion. Now we know where that Mac Glitzy gets their style from.
Shot documentary-interview style by Salvadoran American music video cinematographer an editor Jose Quintanilla, we are welcomed into the traditional ethnic backgrounds discussed by Italian American cast members Anthony Papastrat, Paul Saffioti, Paul Fiumano, Isabella Naccarato, & Abby Stancy.
Mac Glitzy born “Mackenzie Allen Burlingami Bucolla/Roberts” explains there was quite a large Italian American population back in West Virginia where I’m from surprisingly, as many Italian Immigrants came here to work in the coal mines in the beginning of the 20th century (inventors of the pepperoni roll!) I was unaware of the cultural traditions and traits that were instilled in me by my fathers Italian American side of the family were different than how my other friends in highschool grew up. “Oh wait not everyones entire extended family gets together every Sunday to hand roll meatballs and press cooks? Not everyone endures loud heated family drama over Christmas eve dinner, wearing leopard prints like a badge of honor, and sofas wrapped in plastic?” Glitzy explains while laughing. I remember my first visit back home to WV from CA I was so nervous my grandparents were going to freakout that I was wearing makeup sporting a punky genderfluid look an their only reaction was “Why would you dye your beautiful dark hair blonde!”
I really Hope you everyone an anyone can enjoy learn from these 6 video-shorts, All are welcome to join in an celebrate Italian Heritage month with us and enjoy and share the delicious food, crooner music, dancing, wine, and stories associated with Italian Heritage or at your cities local Italian heritage festival.
