Homeland of watermelon lanterns kicks off investment and trade fair, attracting world attention

On September 22, Pinghu of Jiaxing city kicks off an international investment and trade fair, together with its annual watermelon lantern festival. 

On the opening ceremony, a total of 40 major projects worth 21.5 billion yuan were signed, including 2 projects with Fortune 500 companies, 4 FDI projects worth over a hundred million US dollars, 6 projects of domestic capital worth more than 1 billion yuan and 15 digital economy projects.

Pinghu, also known as the homeland of watermelon lanterns, one of the intangible cultural heritages of Zhejiang, has achieved big success in terms of social development and absorbing FDIs. At present, Pinghu has 43 enterprises invested by Fortune 500 companies. In 2021, Ping’s GDP reached 90.75 billion yuan, an increase of 9.2% year on year, and the total industrial output value of 257.3 billion yuan, historically rose to the second place in the Zhejiang’s top ten industrial counties.

Goverment officials, representatives of the Consulate General of Japan in Shanghai, leaders of Jiaxing Nanhu University and representatives of Fortune 500 companies including BASF, Heraeus, Allnex, Mitsubishi Corporation, SK and Sika attended the ceremony.

The 2022 Pinghu Watermelon Lanterns Cultural Festival will be held from September 22 to 26, lasting for 5 days, during which a variety of cultural activities will be staged and introduced to the audience and visitors.
