Themed “Illuminate the World”, the first Qiandao Lake international Biennale of Light Art kicked off in Hangzhou, capital city of East China’s Zhejiang province, on Wednesday.
Jointly held by the China Academy of Art and the county government of Chun’an, where Qiandao Lake is located, the biennale is a public art exhibition that turns the water into an exhibition space. The event aims to promote Qiandao Lake’s cultural tourism, improve the public’s aesthetic education, and realize the value of public art through the integration of art, culture and economic development.
A total of 26 works out of 258 submissions by 208 artists from 10 countries have been selected for the event.

Meanwhile, a night-tour designed by the China Academy of Art and the Qiandao Lake Tourism Group has been put into trial operation at Yueguang Island, the core of the Qiandao Lake Scenic Area. Titled “Under the Moonlight of Love”, the program features different types of moonlight artworks and seeks to highlight the sceneries around the lake.
“With the help of advanced technology, the night tours will provide travellers with a new and interactive experience, present the beauty of light artworks, and create a unique and immersive night view for them in the Qiandao Lake Scenic Area,” said an official from the Qiandao Lake Tourism Group.
