HELSINKI – May 6, 2022 – In the ‘80s and ‘90s, parents were gripped by fear of Satanism and witchcraft corrupting America’s youth. The phenomenon was dubbed the “Satanic Panic”. One target of this moral panic was the game Dungeons & Dragons after news outlets tied it to several teen murder-suicides. The game’s creators, Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, denied any occult link to their creation, but what if it was all true?
Tabletop roleplaying game publisher Lamentations of the Flame Princess is proud to announce the US release of The Book of Antitheses, the world’s first book of occult magick designed for tabletop gamers. With The Book of Antitheses, gamemasters can now cast spells in the real world. In this non-fiction work of evil, author Jobe Bittman teaches the principles of game magick including dice rituals, the summoning of demons, player mind-control, and the secret of astral travel all which are achievable through running tabletop roleplaying games including 5th edition.
“When I approved this project, I wasn’t completely sure what I was agreeing to. I’ve never had more than a passing interest in the occult,” said James Edward Raggi IV, President, Lamentations of the Flame Princess. “After the layout was completed and the artwork started to come together, I really started getting what Jobe was doing. It’s brilliant. I can’t wait to see what gamers do with this book.”
Lamentations of the Flame Princess has enlisted a superstar roster of talents to reveal roleplaying games’ dark side. The book is fully illustrated by Grammy-nominated cartoonist Benjamin Marra whose graphic novels include Night Business, American Blood, Jesusfreak, and Terror Assaulter: O.M.W.O.T. (One Man War On Terror). Filmmaker and cohost of the Weird Studies podcast J.F. Martel contributed an excellent essay to the foreword.
The Book of Antitheses ($49.99) has just launched on the Lamentations of the Flame Princess US webstore: https://us.lotfp.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=87. For information on distribution and requests for review copies, please contact James Raggi at lotfp@lotfp.com.
