Sydney, NSW – March 30, 2022 – Educators who are willing to adapt and improve upon their teaching strategies have one of the best professional qualities. Of course, it takes courage to step outside of the comfort zone and try new strategies and technologies in the classroom. Attempting things that they haven’t tried before can broaden the experiences they have as an educator and enhance learning experiences for their students. So here are five tips to level up learning this year that will make a difference:
Improve on Classroom Management Strategies: “Yes, we’ve all heard it before, classroom management is key, but it really does make a difference to reflect if your own strategies are working or not.”
Sometimes it can be confusing for students and frustrating for educators, however, there’s no doubt that students who clearly understand the expectations are more likely to be engaged and focused during lessons.
“You can build a positive classroom atmosphere by modelling ideal behaviour, encouraging students to be active participants in class discussions and activities as well as avoiding collective punishment,” said the spokesperson of Resources for Teaching.
Flexible Seating Options:
Traditional seating methods have proven to be a barrier to learning for some students. Everyone learns better when they are comfortable, especially children. So, this year, it’s time to get creative; bring in some bean bags, bouncing balls and cushions. Give students the choice to sit where and how they will learn best. Sometimes giving children responsibility is a win-win solution for everyone.
Active Learning:
Try putting students at the centre of the lesson with active learning strategies and watch their engagement soar! Some effective ways to incorporate active learning in teacher lesson plans include reciprocal questioning, taking breaks often to allow students to discuss, ask questions or solve problems and asking students to write down the ‘muddiest point’, which is the point in which the lesson is most unclear to them.
Differentiated Instruction: “Differentiated instructions have been a popular strategy for many years, and they continue to be super effective and hold their place in the classroom,” commented the spokesperson.
It involves attending to the diverse learning styles and needs of the students by adjusting content and activities. Activities like learning stations and think-pair-shares are wonderful small ways to bring a unique learning experience to children.
Use High-Quality Resources to Support Lessons:
“When was the last time you refreshed your class materials and resources? Thanks to the internet, it’s never been easier to find a high-quality lesson plan for teachers and a teacher lesson plan template, as well as printable worksheets, task cards, posters, activities and more.”
