Barbara Norris Arya shares her story in a collection of favorite family memories

SALISBURY, Md. – “A Collection of Favorite Family Memories” penned by author Barbara Norris Arya, is a heart-felt scrapbook-like story of Arya’s family that can be shared by readers through family gatherings. It is an ultimate book about family dynamics. The scenes the sisters recall from their childhood and the struggles of growing up with seven girls are easy to relate to in a big family. Beautifully written, it is focused on a few of their trials at different stages of their development. Both parents played a critical role in nurturing their character; a quality they prized more than beauty which fades like a flower after its season passes.

According to Arya: “This collection of favorite memories has given us time to remember and reflect on our parents; and to think deeply on the changes that death has brought. We have hope for the future as our parents and siblings live on in our hearts and in our combined memories. We have a treasure of our favorite memories that come alive each time we open the collection and read a few of them. We, seven of eight girls, are the only children left of our parents. As we talk to each other, we laugh and smile, while recalling both sweet and bitter memories of our family. We realized that we needed each other’s help to reconstruct and validate the events, people, and places as we wrote about memories from years ago. Sometimes we corroborated each other’s memories; other times we corrected the memories of each other and in the process we have created a more accurate treasury of family memories.”

The success of her book is attributed to the contributions made by her loving sisters Bettye, Gloria, Sybil, Mary, Martha, and Charlotte. The book follows each sister’s growth through childhood into womanhood. The reader can judge if their experiences have made them women of character, having moral strength and family ties showing respect, love and commitment to each other.

Arya’s collection of stories is heartwarming, easy to read and full of variety, yet told with honesty, integrity, and strong family ties at the forefront. The collection of favorite family memories can inspire others to reconnect with their families even if they are not in the physical place called “home.” Home can also be a place in one’s heart where one can experience it anytime, in their own way, whenever they remember it.
