For many minority startups and businesses, gaining access to capital can be the most challenging part of their business. Although more than $140 billion in venture capital is invested in US businesses each year, only 1% is awarded to Black Founders and Minority Business Owners.
Crowd WallStreet Inc., is a new SEC-regulated, private-equity investment crowdfunding company. The company was started in 2020 by Miami natives Tavaris L. Williams and Jamsky French. Crowd WallStreet aims to build collaborative ecosystems and access that removes structural barriers for minority founders by educating them on crowdfunding and connecting them to investors.
The Small Business Administration reports that minority businesses accounted for more than 50 percent of the more than two million new businesses in the United States over the past ten years. Yet, despite that growth, there are still disparities in gaining access to capital, contracting opportunities, and other entrepreneurial development opportunities for minority-owned companies.
Crowd WallStreet provides a platform that connects entrepreneurs to capital and connects accredited and unaccredited investors to early-stage companies. Black business is surging! In fact, in 2020, more new Black-owned businesses were started than at any time in the last 25 years, according to the Kauffman Foundation’s annual report of Black-owned companies.
“White men receive nearly 60 percent of venture capital, women receive less than 12 percent,” says Shanta Lana Hereford. Ms. Hereford is one of the company’s Managing Partners of Crowd WallStreet and Crowd WallStreet Wisconsin. “Crowd WallStreet is here to help bridge the gap and give more minority founders access to social capital using Crowd WallStreet’s crowdfunding portals” states Genevieve Carvil-Harris. Mrs. Carvil-Harris and her business partner LaShondra Johnson are the Managing Partners of Crowd WallStreet Rewards. Crowd WallStreet Rewards, is a rewards-based platform that helps entrepreneurs raise an unlimited amount of funds for their business without giving up any equity.
